The long days are here, the great outdoors is calling, and it's shaping up to be a glorious summer of sport — from the strawberries-and-cream buzz of Wimbledon to the drama of the Football World Cup. Whether you're planning a holiday, hosting friends, refreshing your outside space, or simply making the most of the sunshine, come and visit Newnham Court Shopping Village in Maidstone — all on one level, with plenty of free parking.
Set the Scene for Match Day
There's nothing quite like gathering friends and family for a summer of tennis and football. Get the garden guest-ready at Notcutts Garden Centre, where you'll find everything from outdoor furniture and parasols to garden lighting and the all-important BBQ kit. And while you're planning the perfect cookout, The Butcher of Brogdale — famous for its BBQ packs and locally sourced sausages — will be back from 3 August, just in time for late-summer grilling and the bank holiday weekend.
Get Your Garden Summer-Ready
Your garden becomes an extra room in summer. Alongside its seasonal plants, compost and watering essentials, Notcutts also has bird feeders, wildflower seeds and bug hotels to make your space a haven for local wildlife. Pop into the Notcutts Gift Shop for charming seasonal homewares and summer-themed gifts, ideal for garden gatherings and birthdays.
If you've a pond or aquatic pets, the team at Maidenhead Aquatics can help keep your water garden thriving through the warmer months. And for a real statement of summer living, a visit to Johnsons Garden Buildings is a must — explore log cabins, hot tubs and outdoor living inspiration, with expert advice on hand.
Step into Summer Style
Whether it's a seaside getaway or a relaxed staycation, summer's the season for a wardrobe refresh. Edinburgh Woollen Mill, Bonmarché, Cotton Traders and Klass Collection have their summer ranges in, with cool, comfortable and stylish pieces for every occasion. For breathable sandals and supportive walking shoes, Pavers has you covered from morning strolls to long sunny days out.
Feeling Inspired to Get Active?
All that sport has a way of getting everyone off the sofa. Whether you're planning countryside hikes or simply lacing up for a summer run, Cotswold Outdoor and Runners Need have the expert gear to match — from lightweight jackets and backpacks to trail shoes and hydration packs. And if a camping trip or festival is on the cards this summer, Cotswold Outdoor is the place for tents, sleeping bags, stoves and all the kit to see you comfortably through a night under the stars.
Refresh Your Home
Summer is the perfect time for home updates. Fineline Windows, Doors & Conservatories can help you make the most of your home with quality, stylish, energy-efficient installations, while Johnsons Garden Buildings brings outdoor buildings and spas to the garden. For a better night's sleep on warm evenings, Sussex Beds offers breathable mattresses and beds to keep you cool and comfortable.
For accessible, beautifully designed bathrooms, AHM Installations specialises in bespoke wet rooms, walk-in showers and walk-in baths, with free, no-obligation home surveys and quotations — so you can plan your project from the comfort of your own home. And if a little extra mobility would help you enjoy the season, Charterwood Mobility has a huge choice of scooters, rise-and-recline chairs and beds, specialist footwear and helpful everyday equipment — and runs the free Shopmobility service for visitors to the village, so everyone can shop with ease.
Look and Feel Your Best
Getting holiday-ready? Treat yourself to a fresh cut, facial or manicure at Pure Hairdressing and Pure Beauty Essentials, where the expert team will have you feeling refreshed and radiant all summer long.
Keep the Kids Entertained
The summer holidays are perfect for children to enjoy the Pennies Day Nursery Summer Holiday Club, running from 21 July to 1 September; contact Pennies for full details and availability. And while summer's in full swing, it's worth getting a head start on the new term at Monkhouse Schoolwear Specialists — beat the back-to-school rush with uniform and essentials ahead of September.
Relax and Refuel
All that shopping (and cheering) builds an appetite. Take a break at Bricks Coffee House with a refreshing iced coffee or light lunch. Our friends at Coffee Corner Restaurant — known for their all-day breakfasts, hot meals and freshly made sandwiches — will be taking a short break later in the summer (see below), but they'll be back before you know it.
We're Getting Summer-Ready Too
We're not the only ones sprucing up for the season — the village is too! Over the coming months we're carrying out some essential roof refurbishment to keep Newnham Court looking its best and well protected for years to come. We've planned everything in phases so the village stays open throughout, with the vast majority of shops trading as normal and free, step-free parking right across the site.
Here's what to expect, and when:
Phase 1 (15 June – 3 August): The Butcher of Brogdale, AHM Installations and the Fineline Windows & Doors indoor showroom will be closed while work is carried out above their units. AHM and Fineline are still happy to arrange free home surveys and quotations in the meantime.
Phase 2 (3 August – 21 September): Coffee Corner Restaurant will be taking a short break — we'll miss our morning catch-ups, but they'll be back before you know it!
Phase 3 (21 September – 9 November): Klass, Bonmarché and the Notcutts Gift Shop will be closed during this final phase.
Everything else stays open as usual, so there's still a whole village of summer to enjoy — and every shop taking a break will be back looking better than ever.
